Needless to say, there’s plenty of reason why some people consider a kitchen remodel to be a living nightmare. But it doesn’t have to be all bad. If you do a bit of planning in advance, you can help make things go a bit more smoothly for yourself and your family. Here are a few quick tips to help you survive your kitchen remodel.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

Set up a temporary kitchen

This will save you a lot of hassle. Some appliances can do fine no matter where in your home you put them. You can plug your fridge in somewhere in your dining room for starters. As for cooking food, if you have small appliances like mini grills, slow cookers, toasters and the like, all of these can continue to be used even if your kitchen is inoperable. You may have to cut back on the extravagant meals, but you should in the very least be able to cook for yourself and not have to constantly run out to grab fast food.

Paper plates and plastic utensils

Stock up on these if you’re beginning or in the midst of a kitchen remodel. There will be times when you won’t have water, and no one wants to wash dishes in the tub or the bathroom sink. Your best bet is to avoid the complication of messy dishes altogether. It does seem a bit wasteful to go plowing through boxes and bundles of throwaway dishware when you have perfectly good cutlery (if you haven’t put it all away already) but remember, this is only a temporary measure, so a bit of wastefulness won’t cause to much harm to the environment or your wallet.

Children and pets

Kids and animals can be something of a nightmare during a kitchen remodel. It’s as if somehow that room they only cared about marginally, has suddenly become the most interesting place in the world. Odds are you won’t have the time or patience necessary to keep an eye on them ‘round the clock. It’s best if you come up with a plan before you start the remodel. It might be best to kennel your pets or have your overly curious toddlers stay with a friend or relative if you plan to stay in your home during the remodel.

Most importantly, it’s vital to be patient. A lot of things can happen during a remodel. Without a doubt, there will be some measure of stress involved in anything as big disruptive as a kitchen remodel. Don’t let that stress put you down or make you snappish towards your family and friends. If you find yourself stressing out to an unhealthy level, get away from the remodel for a while, de-stress and come back with a rested mind.
